Fastlink guide to Structured Cabling - copper networks

Each training course is tailored to suit the people that are coming on the course. The delegates for each training day come from similar backgrounds and therefore, will have a similar focus and need for certain course elements.

Fastlink opted for this scenario so that each delegate gets the maximum possible out of the day and leaves at the end with the confidence to carry out this new role.

For example, a Network Installation Engineer isn't going to find 1. Incoming BT lines relevent because it will have already have been determined.

 1.  Incoming lines - BT

        A discussion about the various options available to the user and their performance for incoming lines.

 2.  What is Structured Cabling?

        What all the different elements are to a Structured wiring system including cable choice, connecting hardware and active equipment.

 3.  Server cabinets and enclosures

        The options on which cabinet to use, where to site it and what considerations are required when making your choice.

 4.  Routers

        What is a router and what does it do? What are the choices to consider and where it fits in the system.

 5. Network Switches

        What is a switch and what considerations are required before making your choice? What does a switch do and where does it fit in the system.

 6.  Reasons for installing Ctructured Cable Systems

        What is a firewall and what does it do? Where is a firewall used in a system and why. What are the considerations before choosing a firwall and how

           it's installed.

 7.  A Network overview

        An overview of how a network works and what considerations are required to install. This includes routing cables, cable management systems,

          trunking and metal tray systems. Consideration, also, for access points and length of runs.

 8.  Network Design

        A discussion on network Topology, Protocol and Architecture.

 9.  Network Installation Considerations

        To include False Floors, Suspended Ceilings, Listed Buildings and Trunking.

        How to plan an istallation

11.  Copper Products

        The various types of copper cable, shielded against unshielded.

12.  Cable Types available - Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a plus an update on Cat7.

        The various types and standards available. What best to use in what circumstances. Indoor and outdoor standards, individual cable lengths and runs.

13.  Copper Infrastructure Products

        Difference between Cat5e and Cat6. STP patch cables, when to useThe various types of copper cable, shielded against unshielded.

14.  Fibre Optic Cable products

        An overview of the various options for Fibre Optic cabling.

15.  Termination techniques

         Demostrations and 'hands on' experience with termination techniques and the tools required including RJ45 and Krone.

16. Testing and faultfinding techniques.

        Demonstrations and 'hands on' experience with testing techniques and the equipment required.

 

The course is a mixture of classroom type study and workshop experience. The course runs for one day with a planned timetable as shown below;

 

  9:00 -  9:30      -  Registration and coffee

  9:30                  -  Course start, morning session

12:15 - 13:00     -  Lunch

13:00 - 15:30     -  Course resumes, afternoon session

16:00                  -  Course finishes
